"and there's 10 minuets left before all bakers art to stop and each recipe is judged." i froze. there was still so much to do.
the frosting to make, the flowers to finish. the cupcakes to top. i was running out of time. i had decided to use my mother's recipe of red velvet cupcakes, but i never factored in that i would need more than 1 hour to make those cupcakes. but in the end each cupcake is baked with love, and care. i could hear my children cheering me on in the background. i remember rushing over to the oven, smelling the sweet aroma of baking cupcakes. i opened the oven and checked them, by poking them with a toothpick. the top popped back up.
"there done." i sighed as i pulled them out of the oven and set off to create the frosting and get my frosting flowers out of the fridge.
"just 7 minuets left, i wonder who will pull through in this next round. Valtameri or our new Baker." the host narrated. i bit my lip and placed the last finishing touches on my frosting. i taste tested it, and figured that i needed more sugar. grabbing the bag i quick added in a teaspoon of sugar. i glanced at the clock and saw there was only three minuets left.
"just a little more..." i thought as i grabbed the cupcake trey, flowers, and frosting and headed for my judging table. setting up the cupcakes in a flower pattern as i frosted and decorated, i could barely make out the count down of the viewers as they counted the last remaining seconds on the clock. i just finished my last cupcake as the ending bell rang.
"all right, times up!" the host said as i stood and looked at my finished product. each cupcake has a different highly detailed flower topping it, creating a huge and vibrant bouquet of red velvet cupcakes. from above, you couldn't see the cupcakes, all you could see was flowers. from below it looked like a forest of cupcakes, all smelling wonderfully.
i had a surprise for the judges. i side each cupcake, is a cream cheese surprise. biting into the cupcake would result in a kaleidoscope of flavors. tantalizing to the mouth, and such a sweet sand zesty tang from the flowers, along with the fluffiness of the warm cupcakes. it was the perfect combination.
"and now we will judge" the host said as i went back to my station and cleaned up. i could see the trepidation in the other baker's face. i was nervous also. i watched the judges walk to my table, and look over my flowers. they judged on originality, beauty, and combination. i had all three. thanks to my mother's cook book. they each picked up one of my cupcakes and took a bite, their eyes widening as they tasted my surprise. a smile lit each of the judges faces.
they went to my competitor, and gave the same result. by now i was shaking. 'was i going to cut it?' i thought as i glanced at my family. i smiled at them and looked at the judges.
they walked back to their tables and talked it over. there was a few minuets pause before they gave an answer.
"valtameri wins" they all said.
my heart stopped. i won. i screamed and hugged my family as they ran up to see me. my kids ate my cupcakes and smiled. "these are fantastic mom" they both said as i smiled. i couldn't believe i won.
